Hydraulic oil management and precautions

Hydraulic oil is a working medium used in hydraulic transmission systems, which plays a role in energy transfer, system lubrication, corrosion prevention, rust prevention, cooling, and other functions.

According to statistical data, 60% to 70% of various failures in hydraulic systems are related to hydraulic oil. This management system is specially formulated to reduce costs, increase efficiency, and minimize equipment failures.

1. Hydraulic oil storage

Strengthening hydraulic oil management is an important link in controlling hydraulic oil pollution and ensuring the normal operation of the system. Therefore, it is necessary to establish strict oil management systems and control conditions.

(1) In the equipment file, establish a hydraulic equipment oil card, clearly recording the oil brand number, oil quota, and records of oil change and refueling for this equipment.

(2) In principle, hydraulic oil should be sampled and tested before being stored. Only after passing the test can it be stored. If it does not meet the performance indicators, it is not allowed to be used.

(3) Hydraulic oil entering the warehouse should be stored and stored in specialized barrels according to its brand, with strict and disorderly placement. It is not allowed to store it outdoors. The storage temperature is generally recommended to be 20-30 ℃, and it should be kept away from heat sources and avoid direct sunlight to prevent oil oxidation.

(4) To prevent dust and moisture from depositing around the opening, it is advisable to place the storage container horizontally. Otherwise, anti fouling measures should be taken at the opening of the container. In long-term storage, it is generally necessary to rotate and stir once every 8 months.

2. Precautions for using hydraulic oil

During the process from sampling to oil injection, it is necessary to carefully inspect and clean the oil drum, extractor, funnel, oil filter, etc.

When filling the mailbox with oil, it should be done through an oil filtering device. Before filling, the hydraulic oil should be thoroughly stirred, especially for low temperature oil, which cannot be injected immediately. Generally, a temperature of 20 ℃ is recommended.

Take as much as you need, and strictly prevent dust and oxidation when refueling.

3. Replacement of hydraulic oil

Hydraulic oil used under high temperature and pressure will gradually age and deteriorate over time. According to industry experience, hydraulic oil generally needs to be replaced after 5000 hours of use to ensure its normal lubrication, cooling, energy transfer, and other effects.

Oil change operation procedure: When changing oil, attention should be paid to cleanliness to prevent dirt from entering at any stage.

a. The replaced new oil must comply with the oil grade specified for use in this hydraulic system and undergo testing to meet the specified indicators.

b. When changing the oil, all the old oil inside the fuel tank must be drained and flushed to be qualified.

c. After filtering the new oil, it should be injected into the fuel tank with a filtration accuracy not lower than that of the system.

d. Before adding new oil to the oil tank, the main circuit that flows into the tank should be disconnected, and temporary oil drums should be used to connect the oil. The oil pump motor should be turned to push out the old oil in the pipeline with the new oil. If the hydraulic cylinder reversing valve is operated when the oil pump rotates, the old oil in the cylinder can also be replaced.

e. When refueling, pay attention to the cleanliness of the oil barrel mouth, fuel tank mouth, and inlet and outlet oil lines of the oil filter.

f. The hydraulic station's inlet oil filter element, return oil filter element, and air filter element should be replaced every three months.

4. Prevent system contamination during system operation and maintenance

The control of the cleanliness of the hydraulic lubrication system should be integrated into the daily operation and maintenance of the equipment. Specifically, we require the following key tasks to be done well and adhered to in the long term:

a. When repairing equipment, pay attention to preventing system contamination. To improve the technical literacy of maintenance personnel, when assembling, disassembling, and replacing hydraulic lubrication components and management, they must operate carefully and not introduce dirt such as oil stains, iron filings, and dust into the system, causing excessive system cleanliness and leading to system failures.

b. System refueling should first pass through a filtering device before being added to the fuel tank, as the cleanliness of the new oil often does not meet the requirements of the system. Its level is generally below NAS12 or even lower, and a filtering car is usually used for refueling. The external oil leakage of the system has not been filtered and is not allowed to return to the fuel tank.

c. Regularly replace or clean the filter element. Replacing or cleaning the filter cartridge can prevent clogging, restore its filtering ability, and fully utilize its filtering function. It should be noted that more disposable filter cartridges are being used nowadays, as the cleaning effect of the filter cartridge is difficult to guarantee and it is prone to secondary pollution, which can affect the cleanliness of the system.

d. Pay attention to maintaining the integrity of the system equipment. If leakage or damage is found in hydraulic lubrication equipment, it should be dealt with promptly, as pollutants may enter the system from here. Especially for the fuel filling port, pump suction pipe, shaft seal and other parts on the fuel tank, it is necessary to ensure good sealing.

e. Choose high-quality hydraulic lubricating oil. The quality of oil has a significant impact on the normal operation of hydraulic lubrication equipment. Some oil products may deteriorate after a period of use, producing insoluble chemicals that are even difficult to filter. Some oil ports' anti-wear performance cannot meet the requirements of the equipment, resulting in severe wear and inability to guarantee cleanliness. Therefore, we require that the selection and replacement of hydraulic lubricants must be verified. The selection of oil for new equipment must also be approved by the equipment manufacturer.
